Dave Thomas was sitting in his apartment in Oswego Township, IL when he heard a commotion in the hallway and looked outside to see a pool of blood.

Thomas ran back inside his apartment and grabbed his AR-15 before coming back to the hallway where he witnessed a knife-wielding man who had stabbed a neighbor during a dispute.

According to police, deputies responded to a report of one person with a knife and another with a gun at the Oswego Township apartment complex. An investigation revealed the incident began as a “neighbor dispute,” with the suspect inflicting multiple stab wounds on the victim.

In addition, police said a witness to the stabbing retrieved an AR-15 rifle from his apartment and stopped the knife attack “with only a threat of force.”

The witness had both a valid firearm owner’s ID card and a concealed carry permit, according to the sheriff’s office.

Dave Thomas, who stopped the attack, told reporters the suspect was “half a breath away from getting his head blown off and he knew that, that’s why he put the knife down.”

As you can see, an AR-15 is a great choice for a home defense weapon because it’s so versatile and can deal with multiple threats. Most AR-15’s can hold 30 rounds (if you live in a free state) so you have plenty of ammo to deal with multiple threats.

There is a common misconception that a .223 round will go through walls and exit a house, however, the truth is a .223 round is going to have similar penetration to many handgun rounds because it’s all going to depend on the house and the specific rounds used.

My point is, it’s not a bad idea to consider an AR-15 for home defense, and if you don’t own one yet, now is the time to get one.

When it comes to AR-15’s you can obviously buy one at a sporting goods store or you can build your own.

One of my favorite guns I own is the AR-15 that I built from scratch because it teaches you the ins and outs of the rifle and provides you the hands on knowledge to repair the gun if needed.

As I mentioned, now is definitely the time to purchase an AR-15 because in the next few years we could see laws change regarding these types of firearms.

With democrats taking control of the House, here are the top three law changes they will most likely push for in the coming year.

Limits on magazine capacity. Bans on gun magazines over a certain size have been passed in a few states and this foolish nonsense will probably continue to spread.

Bans on “assault weapons”. Research shows that the 1994 “Federal Assault Weapons Ban” didn’t have any impact on the murder rate during the 10 years it was in effect. This isn’t surprising, since according to the FBI, rifles are used in less than 3% of murders.

“Universal” background check. The problem here is most criminals don’t submit to background checks, so such a bill wouldn’t be universal.

What this law does is make buying firearms more expensive, since gun stores will have to charge more to call the background checks into the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

Also, most crimes in the U.S are committed with handguns that are not legally purchased, meaning such legislation won’t reduce the crime rate.

While many states have already passed some of these laws, in 2019 we will no doubt see more attempts to push these laws on a federal level.

Now, Republicans do hold the Senate by a slim margin and the President could (should) veto legislation, so gun-control bills passed by the House are likely to get strong push back from the President.

However, now is definitely the time to buy an AR-15 because if a democrat is elected President in the future we will no doubt see more laws passed that only take away guns from law abiding citizens and do nothing to stop criminals from carrying out their crimes.
