On July 14th, 2018 a Eugene, Oregon woman was walking on the East Bank Bike Path when she was attacked by an unknown male. According to law enforcement, the woman was walking south on the bike path at 11:06 p.m. when she passed a man heading north who greeted her.
A few minutes later, the woman looked over her shoulder to see the man coming towards her trying to catch up to her. Before the male made his way to her the woman removed pepper spray from her purse and held it in her hand.
At first, the suspect was simply talking to the female but then he suddenly pushed her to the ground. The woman immediately started screaming for help but the suspect covered her mouth with his hand and told the woman he was going to kill her.
At this point, the female sprayed the man with pepper spray and continued to scream as loud as she could. After being hit with pepper spray, the suspect took off running. There’s no question this woman saved her life by using her pepper spray as the man told her he was going to kill her and that was clearly his intention.
Now, before we get into the types of pepper spray you want to use, here is my personal opinion on pepper spray. First, I’m a gun guy. I believe that firearms are the best way to protect you and your loved ones. However, I realize that not everyone is comfortable with guns or doesn’t want to own them.
For example, I work with a lot of women who have stalkers and many of these women tell me they don’t want to carry a gun. So, even if someone doesn’t want a gun, they should still have a way to defend themselves. This could be a knife, pepper spray, a baseball bat or a tactical pen.
Considering this, I want to share with you some pepper spray options that I recommend checking out if you think it might be a good self-defense tool for someone you know. Just remember to check your local and state laws as some states have restrictions on ingredients contained in pepper spray.
Sabre 3-IN-1 Pepper Spray. Sabre is a well-known seller of pepper spray and is a brand commonly carried by law enforcement around the U.S. The 3-in-1 comes with a spray range of 10 feet and delivers a potent combination of pepper spray, tear gas, and UV-marking dye to stop an attacker and allow you to get to safety.
This product is small, weighing only .75 ounces and provides you with 35 bursts of spray shooting a distance of 10 feet. The Sabre 3-1 sells for around $10 on Amazon.
Kimber Pepper Blaster II. Kimber is a quality firearms manufacturer that also sells pepper spray. This particular product actually has a tiny handgrip somewhat like a firearm, which typically makes it easier to accurately shoot the spray.
One of the biggest advantages to this spray is that it shoots 13 feet at a speed of 112 MPH, reducing the risk of blowback or drift from your target. Basically, it shoots with so much force and speed that it’s more accurate than many other sprays.
This product is somewhat bigger than most as its 4.7 x 3.4 x 1 inch and weighs 1 pound. However, you are getting a more powerful spray and delivery method. The Kimber Pepper Blaster sells for about $40 on Amazon.
Fox Mean Green. One of the reasons Mean Green is a popular choice is because it contains a green dye that will stay on skin, which can help identify an attacker. In addition, it provides a strong stream spray pattern that projects 12-15 feet.
Plus, it can produce roughly 30-35 bursts of spray out of a can that is about 5.5 inches X 1.5 inch. Mean Green comes in different sizes as well as choice of patterns such as spray or stream. Depending on the specific size you purchase, this sells for about $25 on Amazon.
