This Week: Sharing my goals for 2017… How lock picking saved Christmas… A doorbell option to stay safe… Why it’s never to late to learn safety skills… And, building a quality rifle.
Call me old fashioned, but I still like to handwrite things.
Every day, I handwrite my “to do” list on one of those yellow legal pads. And, when I make my New Year’s goals, I handwrite those as well.
I thought you might be able to get some ideas from my goals for 2017 so I’ve posted the handwritten document below. (They’re in random order and I’m still working on them but hopefully you’ll see something you can use.)
(Good luck with your New Year’s goals.)
My Goals for 2017

The Mailbag
From John T: I recommend a device called “Ring”. It replaces your doorbell button. It will work off a battery or your doorbell button wires. It allows one to see who is at the door and also allows one to talk with them without opening the door. It is paired to your mobile phone. One doesn’t even have to be at home to use the device…
A: This sounds like a great way to make sure you never open your door to a stranger. Thank you for sharing this.
From Deb N: Does the Self-Defense Flashlight/Stun Gun come with batteries?
A: It has an internal battery and comes with a wall charger so you don’t have to worry about batteries. Click here to see the self-defense flashlight/stun gun in action.
From Larry S: I have your book and videos. I am 73 yrs old and I appreciate the knowledge you share with us sheep. I also have the books by Tim Larkin and have shared several copies with several female family members and friends. Take care and thank you.
A: I truly appreciate your support. Thank you for sharing with others.
From John E: Always interested in what you have to say/offer. You are a quality guy. P.S. 2 1/2 yrs out from building the AR, it still works GREAT.
A: I’m glad to hear you are enjoying your AR-15. It is definitely a quality rifle and I’ve been using mine for years. For those of you who are interested in the Underground AR-15 Build Class click here.
From Darryl H: Your book came today. It is an eye opener to say the least. Been involved with combat and safety for a long time. So there are several things I’m currently working on. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
A: Thank you for your feedback on the book. I hope you learn multiple things from the book to keep you safer in 2017.
From Matt R: I read your excellent book a little while ago and decided to try and learn lock picking, as it is a skill I have rather admired… Last week whilst taking my mother to France for Xmas (We are still here) she accidentally locked and padlocked her case with the keys inside. I told her I would pick the lock, thinking an attempt was better than nothing and she was really despondent. Anyway I had a go and remembering a video of yours… I tensioned the lock, raked the pins and then jiggled them. “Snick”. The lock came open. And my mother was VERY happy! Thank you for your help and for making my Mum, not only happy but a little bit proud of me too!
A: Nice job picking the lock! I’m glad you were able to enjoy your vacation and make your mom’s day.
Stay safe,
Jason Hanson
I have 3 pens, a spy tool, a mini tomahawk, and a bump key. Thank you
